Friday was HOT! It was definitely August in Texas and my cousin and I didn’t do as much as we had planned. We loaded the kids into the car and started in Georgetown to visit Galaxy Cupcakes for dessert first. It’s always a good day when you have dessert first! Located right off the cute downtown square, this little shop is adorable and the cupcakes were delectable. B and I were in heaven with our Italian Cream Cupcakes.
E had the peanut butter chocolate, (I snagged a taste and the peanut butter was too sweet for me – and I couldn’t get a good picture of it).
And we brought home this little lemon beauty for Hubby. It looked so cute in its little Chinese take-out container.
Next stop was Threadgill’s for lunch (the downtown location). All I wanted was their crispy fried green tomatoes, though I also ordered a caesar salad with fried shrimp, and ended up taking over half of it home for hubby to finish. The best down-home cooking in town 🙂
After lunch, we bailed on all our other downtown plans and headed home for some relaxing on the couch – it was TOO HOT outside to do anything else! After a short rest, my cousin and I headed into Cedar Park to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for an afternoon pick-me-up, then browsed cookbooks and CDs at Half-Price Books before heading to my parents’ house to meet up for dinner. Before dinner, my cousin HAD to see my parents’ sun room and newly installed tea house with water feature.
I want this to be my yoga room! Especially since you can hear the soothing water fall outside in front of the Tea House.
After falling in love with this space AGAIN, it was time for us to go to dinner at Hula Hut. I wasn’t as impressed with the food as I remember being when I was younger – except for the coconut shrimp appetizer, with large slivers of flaked coconut all over each piece, and so light and crispy, and heavenly. Afterward, we took the long way back on Scenic Drive to look at the fancy mansions on the lake and had a great time pointing out some really gorgeous ones. My favorite was the Tuscan style villa mansion. On our way to Hey Cupcake, we stopped at Peony Asian Cuisine for dessert #1 – Green Tea Ice Cream.
I’ll have to take hubby back to Peony to try their sushi and other dishes. The food looked and smelled wonderful.
Then, it was off to the Burnet location of Hey Cupcake! for a box of cupcake goodies to go.
We chose the chocolate cupcakes with pink-tinted vanilla buttercream frosting and chocolate sprinkles and the strawberry cupcakes with strawberry cream cheese frosting.
I have to be honest – the chocolate cupcake tasted like any other cupcake to me. While they were good, I wasn’t blown away, and didn’t finish it – the cake part tasted just like the ones I make at home and the frosting was too sweet for me. The strawberry one was much better, but I preferred the ones from Galaxy Cupcakes. However, Hey Cupcake! had the most fun, helpful person behind the counter, which made the experience more light-hearted and comfortable than at Galaxy Cupcakes where the young lady just stared at us as we debated our decisions until we were ready to order.
After a couple more hours of chatting with my parents, we headed home. Another great day in Central Texas!
